Simona Rizzo received her Laurea in Chemistry from the University of Messina in 1995 (dissertation title: “Novel efficient synthesis and Diels Alder reactivity of the benzo [1,2-C:3,4-C’] difurane system, supervisor: Prof. Franz H. Kohnke.)

From 1995 to 1998 she attended the Doctoral School of the University of Messina and she obtained a PhD degree with a thesis on the asymmetric induction in Diels Alder cycloadditions of 2-solfinyl-1,3-butadienes (supervisior: Prof. Maria Chiara Aversa). From november 1998 to november 2000 she was the recipient of a fellowship of the University of Milano where she attended the School of Synthetic Chemistry and carried out investigations on the synthesis of chiral bisphosphine ligands and their applications in homogeneous cataysis under the guidance of Prof. Franco Sannicolò.

During this period she spent three months with the group of Prof. Oliver Raiser at the Department of Organic Chemistry of the University of Regensburg (Germany), where she studied the enantioselective C=C bond hydrogenation of alfa,beta-unsaturated nitriles catalyzed by Ruthenium complexes of chiral bisphosphine ligands.

From november 2000 to october 2001 she worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Organic and Industrial Chemistry of the University of Milano keeping on investigating catalytic systems based on chiral bisphosphine ligands and also developing new methods for the production of enantiopure D-amminoacids from L-amminoacids.

She was appointed researcher of the CNR in october 2001 and her current scientific interests include the development of electroresponsive organic materials and the study of homogeneous catalytic systems, in particular those based on heteroaromatic compounds, for stereoselective organic reactions.

Partner in the Cariplo 2011 project on “Inherently Chiral Multifunctional Conducting Polymers”. Partner in the “Inherently Chiral Ionic Liquids” projects, awarded from Cariplo foundation as frontline research “la Chimica la servizio del progresso e dell’umanità” (Edizione 2011).

Author of 23 articles published in international scientific journals and inventor/author of two patents. Author and Speaker at 18 communications at national and international scientific meetings.”

She is author of about twenty-three articles published in international scientific journals and of two patents. She has presented several oral- and many poster communications at national and international scientific meetings.
