PROFILE S.P.Trasatti is presently an Assistant Professor in the Physical Chemistry and Electrochemistry Department of the University of Milan. He received a PhD in Industrial Chemistry in 1995. In the same year he was awarded the Oronzio De Nora prize in the field of electrochemistry. He worked in private companies from 1996 to 2002, where he was responsible for surface treatments (Henkel Surface Technologies) and material testing (Centro Sviluppo Materiali). He is the author of about 40 peer-reviewed papers, 60 conference proceedings, 50 technical papers and one patent in the field of metallic corrosion. His research interests include active-passive alloys, corrosion monitoring and control, protective coatings as well as the use of artificial intelligence systems in the study of corrosion. S.P.Trasatti has been responsible for many research project committed by private companies. Title of the Ph.D. thesis: “Crevice corrosion as the initiation step for localized corrosion of stainless steel in chloride containing cooling systems”. 07/1991 Laurea in Industrial Chemistry, Summa cum laude, in the Dept. of Physical Chemistry and Electrochemistry at the University of Milan. Title of the thesis: “Influence of the hydrodynamic conditions on stainless steel corrosion in heat exchangers”. HONORS AND AWARDS 06/1995 Award “Dr. Ing.
