November 2001 – November 2004: PhD in Food Biotechnology at the Department of Food Science and Microbiology, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Milan

June – December 2003: worked at the Department of Biochemistry, Turku University, Finland

February 2005: the doctoral degree in Food Biotechnology with a dissertation “Biodiversity and Cell Surface Properties of Human Intestinal Bifidobacteria and Construction of Molecular Instruments for Their Genetic Modification”

January 2005: began working as researcher in the field of Food Microbiology at the Department of Food Science and Microbiology, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Milan
